First of all, no need to note that Mykonos & Santorini are two of the most beautiful islands in the world! Many people come in Greece just to sail or visit the Aegean Sea & these two famous islands. However, we feel the need to share our thoughts with our interested – for such a route – sailing parties.

Sailing from Athens to Mykonos and Santorini within one week is possible, not advisable though.

More precisely, the distance from Athens to Mykonos is about 90 Nautical Miles, WSW of Alimos marina. That means, it is approx. 13-15 hrs non-stop sailing for an average 43 ft sailing yacht that sails around 6-7 knots per hour. Then, Mykonos to Santorini is about 70NM distance more, which means another approx. 10-11 hrs non-stop sailing. ALL THE ABOVE JUST TO GO!
When returning from Santorini to Athens (Santorini is at 120 Nautical miles SSW from Athens), you are going upwind and the winds in the Cyclades are a bit tricky as it sometimes could reach the force of  7-8 Beauforts (32-40 miles per hour). The whole route Athens – Mykonos – Santorini – Athens is around 38-42 hours NON-STOP sailing!

What kind of boat holiday are you looking for? This is the real question!
By choosing to visit both Mykonos & Santorini within a week, you will have a lot of sailing hrs, no swimming, no relaxing, no exploring the islands on the way etc. In case though, you charter the boat for two weeks then you will have no problem at all (weather permitted)!

If you prefer a more stress-free sailing holiday, we would suggest you choose a more relaxing itinerary or visit just one of the two islands & mostly Mykonos which is much closer to Athens.
