Sailing Yacht Charters in Greece & the Greek Islands!

Although Alimos (Kalamaki) marina in Athens is the prime yacht charter base so as to sail the Cyclades sailing area, Galazio Sailing suggests two more bases (Lavrion & Paros port) as an alternative starting point for this area.
Below, one may see the map and a general description about Lavrion port in Athens.

Lavrion port/ marina in Athens mainland:

Lavrion port is located in the South East part of Athens, very close to the Athens International Airport and the popular Cyclades islands (14NM from Kea island!). Although Lavrion is a good starting point if you want to sail the Cyclades islands, only a few charter companies operate a base there, consequently availability is rather limited. Lately, new docks were built in Lavrion and the port will soon become an important ferry terminal for the Greek islands.

How to reach in Lavrion yacht charter base:

There are mainly two ways to reach Lavrion charter base once you land in Athens International airport. The fast way (and most expensive way) is by taking a taxi from right outside the airport main hall to Lavrion port. The other, more affordable way is to take the coach bus.

Services:

Into Lavrion port:

  • Water supply
  • Electricity (220V)
  • Fuel
  • Parking lot
  • Local supermarket that delivers all goods / items to the boat

Outside Lavrion port:

  • Many taverns, cafes, restaurants and bars
  • ATM cash points and some banks
  • Supermarkets and groceries
  • Taxi stand

Useful tips:

  • Lavrion port in Athens is open to the Aegean Sea and the winds are sometimes too strong. That means you may not be allowed to set sails! This is the reason, we strongly recommend you starting your sailing holidays from Alimos marina instead. If the Cyclades are too windy, you may head for the Saronic islands! The prevailing wind in Lavrion is usually N-NW at force 3-5 Beaufort scale
  • No public toilets are available in Lavrion
  • There are normally no hazards at the port. Yachtsmen should pay some attention to Kea and Makronissos Islands keeping a safe distance from the land
  • Make sure you visit the Temple of Poseidon right at the edge of Cape Sounio (4 km)
