Mr Tim R., from/ to Athens with our Cat Lagoon 420 (Sofia VI)!

Our second time in Greece, this time we decided to go for a catamaran, and we chartered a 420 Lagoon cat from Galazio Sailing. We are a small informal cruising group, based mainly in Ireland, and we have been chartering in various parts of the world for over 20 years. As the skipper of the group, I do the organising, and I picked Galazio from the wide selection available on the web because the email replies were prompt and friendly and I liked the look of their boat, Sofia VI.

As we had no experience of this charter company before, we were a little nervous arriving in Athens, but we need not have worried.  The check-in and boat hand-over were performed painlessly, and as I had arrived a day early because of flights, I was offered accommodation on the boat free of charge! The crew arrived (3 from Ireland, 1 from Bulgaria and 2 from Germany) and we set off from Alimos marina.

The boat, Sofia VI, was in excellent condition and was a pleasure to handle.  I really appreciated not having to mess about switching batteries on and off, and the generator, which started up at the press of a button was very handy for using the microwave when we were at anchor.  Another big plus was the electric winch which made putting up the main so easy.  We were too busy doing tourist things to use the DVD player and TV. Being early May, the evenings were cool, so we did not need the air-conditioning, but we tried this when we returned to Alimos, and it worked well.

We anchored in the bay at Sounion, and we visited the islands of Kea, Kythnos, Syros, Mykonos and Delos.

As we were in the main used to monohulls, everybody was really impressed with the amount of space in the boat and also by the fact that you did not have to go down to use the cooker!!!

We had a great time, so much so that we are looking at taking the same boat for 2 weeks next year, as we would like to see Santorini and Rhodes. In the survey we were asked to complete at the end of our charter, we had no hesitation in saying that this company was the best charter company we have used in 20 years.

Excellent! Very friendly & very professional.

Same as above. We also appreciated the use of the yacht outside of the charter time.

How would you rate the overall condition of the yacht? Any comments on its equipment, sails, engine, etc?

Excellent – as new! Everything was working well. Just one suggestion: an electric toaster.
