Samos is geographically part of the East Sporades group of islands in the Aegean Sea, most sailors include it in the Dodecanese block of islands though. In fact, Samos is the closest of the Greek islands to Asia Minor, about one single mile far from the Turkish coastline.

Pythagorion port is located on the Southeast part of Samos island just 500m away from the charming Pythagorio village, 5 km from the airport, 13 km from Vathy town (Samos’ capital & main ferry terminal) & 37 km from Karlovasi (the second port of Samos).

Samos island/ Pythagorion yacht charter base can be reached either by air or by sea.

Undoubtedly, the easiest way to reach Samos is through a charter flight directly from your country. There are many charter companies (and tour operators) that fly to Samos from several European countries. Our recommendation would be to consult your local travel agent for better information & more options and availabilities on charter flights.

Several domestic flights connect Samos with Athens and Thessaloniki on a daily basis. You can check the Olympic Airlines for timetables and prices. Flight time (from/ to Athens & Samos) is usually around 45 minutes to 1 hour and ** tickets may cost from Euro 60 to 160 all inclusive depending on the period and the availability.

You can fly from/ to Samos & Chios, Mitelene, Lemnos and many other airports across Greece as well.

Another way to get to Samos is by ferry from Piraeus port (estimated distance around 174 nautical miles). How? Once you land in Athens Airport, you can take the X96 public bus to Piraeus port (public bus information and timetable). Ferries to Samos usually depart from Piraeus in the (late) evening due to the duration of the journey (approx. 11-13 hours depending on the boat you select). However, there are also companies that have daily routes to Samos. Till now, there are no speed boats (fast ferries) available from/ to Piraeus port & Samos island (only conventional!). ** The ticket cost varies from Euro 19 to 51 (deck & economy saloon tickets) for conventional boats (ferry-boats).

For more ferries and timetables, you may also check http://www.greekferries.gr/.

Useful tips for Vathi and Karlovasi (the two ports that “serve” Samos Island):

Vathy town is Samos’ capital & main ferry terminal while Karlovasi (the so-called co-capital of Samos located on the Northwest part of the island) is also a big commercial port which connects Samos with Piraeus port in Athens and many other North Aegean islands. There are regular public buses and taxis from/ to both the above two ports & Pythagorion base.

There is also ferry connection from/ to Samos & many other islands/ towns in Greece such as Kavala, Ikaria, Fournoi, Patmos, Kos, Leros, Kalymnos, Paros, Mykonos, Syros, Tinos, Chios, Mitelene, Kusadasi (Turkey) and many more.

Please note: The timetable for the ferries gets “published” about 3 weeks in advance. That means that you cannot see the actual schedule of the ferries before that time. However, most companies have a “fixed” schedule for some ferries that is valid throughout the year.
